What makes a successful learning community?
For the first weeks of the year we have been getting to know our new grade – the individuals within it and the way our grade works as a community . We have learned about communities, discovered how we connect with each other, how we as individuals stand out, what sort of intelligences are our strengths and what we value. We’ve been doing a lot of talking (and listening) about what is important to us (our values) and what we can do to ensure we have a fantastic final year of primary school and be a successful learning community (our class norms). We used ‘Wordle’ to make a picture of what 6MW values.
You can design your own Wordle using the list of values we decided were important. Copy and paste the following words into Wordle at http://www.wordle.net/
respect learning friendly loyal include cooperate care compassion fair-go tolerate equal care loyal tolerate tolerate care responsible include potential do-your-best friendly together happy learning communicate communicate listen learning listen responsible responsible do-your-best challenge include include respect respect cooperate fair-go best friendly cooperate tolerate respect respect community respect loyal care communicate friendly cooperate community tolerate tolerate do-your-best fair-go friendly responsible belong listen happy cooperate do-your-best
What does the 6MW learning community values Wordle mean to you?

I think 6MW is a successful community because of all the great people in the classroom and all the encouragement, all the friendliness and mostly all the laughter. With all the rules you can see at the top with the world. We use all of them in 6mw so thats why we’re a successful community.
I’m pleased you are feeling like this JW. We have certainly had a great start to the year!!
I think a successful community is a community that has values such as tolerance, respect, belonging and cooperation. Also a successful community works great. Respect is the most important norm because if you didn’t have respect you want have all of the other norms. Fair go, the community needs to have a fair go because it wouldn’t be fair.
I agree NF that respect is very important!!

I think a happy learning community is one were everyone respects each other in one way or another which means that a happy student is a productive student which would make a successful learning community

What I think the 6MW learning community values Wordle means to me is that we have to respect everyone to do most of the values. I think respect is the most important word because it is the biggest out of the others.
I think a successful learning community has to cooperate with each other and be kind. Being kind and cooperating is an essential quality that all communities must have. Without out these qualities there would be chaos and hatred.
Cooperation helps everybody to extend their ideas and help each other to understand each other.
Kindness shows other people they don’t want to fight.
What makes a successful learning community?
I believe to be in a successful learning community you have to respect, cooperate, tolerate, do your best and listen to other people. Also in a successful learning community you need to give everyone a fair go so others feel like they are belong. This is what we think a successful learning community is.
What a wonderful class this is
