Term 3 – Australia As A Nation

July14

Does history shape us?

Does it make us who we are?

This unit of inquiry provides the opportunity for us to understand the change from colonial Australia to the development of Australia as a nation, particularly after 1900.  We will explore the factors that led to Federation and experiences of democracy and citizenship over time.  We will understand the significance of Australia’s British heritage, the Westminster system and other models that influenced the development of Australia’s system of government.  We will learn about the way of life of people who migrated to Australia and their contributions to Australia’s economic and social development.

Historical inquiry is the process of  investigation undertaken in order to understand the past. Steps in the inquiry  process include:

  • posing questions,
  • locating and analysing sources and
  • using  evidence from sources to develop an informed explanation about the past.

Have a look at this you tube video about what historical inquiry learning is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dBJzY0Vywo

What makes a successful learning community?

February18

For the first weeks of the year we have been getting to know our new grade – the individuals within it and the way our grade works as a community . We have learned about communities, discovered how we connect with each other, how we as individuals stand out, what sort of intelligences are our strengths and what we value. We’ve been doing a lot of talking (and listening) about what is important to us (our values) and what we can do to ensure we have a fantastic final year of primary school and be a successful learning community (our class norms). We used ‘Wordle’ to make a picture of what 6MW values.

Hello 6MW 2013!

January17

Welcome to our blog!

If you haven’t used a blog before, you are in for a treat! Throughout the year we will use it as an online communication space to enhance our learning. You will be able to access the blog from school and from home.  We will respond to learning experiences, share and build on ideas, access information and have fun while we are at it.

Your first online challenge is to post a response on Our Classroom Community page. Remember to use only your initials (not your full name)  and to follow the 6MW blogging guidelines.

Good luck!

Mrs M & Mrs W
